About This Crochet Flower Ebook Pattern

This ebook contains many small crochet flower patterns you can make from scraps of cotton yarn. The patterns are photographed and written step-by-step so you can create petals, loops and layered blooms easily. You can use these flowers for garlands, hair clips, cards, pencil tops or to sew onto larger projects.

Crochet Flower Ebook Pattern crochet pattern - detailed view of completed project

Most patterns use cotton yarn and a 3mm hook for crisp stitches and small, neat flowers. These designs are ideal for using leftover yarn and experimenting with colour combinations.

Why You'll Love This Crochet Flower Ebook Pattern

I absolutely love this pattern because it turns tiny scraps of yarn into little bursts of colour that brighten up everyday items. I enjoy how fast each flower works up, so I can make a handful in one sitting and immediately use them on cards or hair clips. The variety of petal shapes and loops lets me experiment with texture and colour combinations, which keeps the process fresh and fun. I also appreciate that these designs are forgiving β€” a missed stitch can often be adapted into a creative petal β€” so they are relaxing and satisfying to make.

Switch Things Up

I love how easy it is to customise these flowers to match any project β€” I often change the color combinations to make seasonal sets or gifts.

Want smaller or larger flowers? Swap the yarn weight and hook size: use a finer cotton for delicate mini flowers, or a thicker cotton with a larger hook for bold, chunky blooms.

I sometimes work two strands held together for a marled effect and it gives the petals a wonderful texture and depth.

If you want a vintage look, try using muted or tea-dyed tones and a slightly looser tension for softer petals.

I enjoy adding tiny beads or a French knot in the center to create a focal detail that catches the eye.

To make hair clips, sew the flower onto a small disc or felt circle before attaching it to a clip; this helps the flower sit neatly and securely.

For a garland, make lots of the same flower and string them on a length of cotton cord, spacing them with small knots or beads for interest.

You can also use metallic thread for the final round to add a subtle shimmer perfect for holiday decorations.

I like to layer two or three different flower patterns together for a dimensional look β€” try combining a chain-loop petal with a dense center flower for contrast.

Experiment with asymmetrical placements and sew on leaves or tiny stars to turn a simple motif into a bespoke embellishment for clothing or bags.

Common Mistakes & How to Fix Them

βœ— Skipping the slip stitch to join rounds causes uneven loops and misaligned petals; always join rounds as instructed to keep each row neat and symmetrical. βœ— Changing color without securing the yarn can create loose ends that show through the petals; change color by fastening off or weaving in the tail securely before continuing. βœ— Not counting stitches in the first round will lead to the wrong number of loops for petals; count the starting stitches in the magic ring and after the first round to ensure correct placement. βœ— Pulling chains too tightly when making chain-loops flattens the petals; keep chain tension slightly loose so loops have spring and shape. βœ— Overtightening the magic ring makes the centre too small and distorts the petals; close the magic ring firmly but leave a small opening so the first round sits evenly.

Info :

For the flowers in this book I used Phildar Phil Coton 3 and a crochet hook size 3mm. But of course you can use any other cotton or yarn. I change color a lot.

Flower (Green with yellow center) :

Step 1: Chain 3 in a magic ring (counts as the first double crochet), make 13 double crochet in the ring.

Step 2 :

1 slip stitch in the first double crochet that you made in row 1. Change color.

Step 3 :

Chain 1, 1 single crochet in every single crochet around. Make 1 slip stitch in the first single crochet that you made at the beginning of this row and change color.

Step 4 :

* Chain 6 (this is the first chain-6 loop), skip one single crochet, 1 single crochet in the next stitch. * Repeat around. End with a slip stitch in the slip stitch you made at the end of row 3, so just before you made your first chain-6 loop.

Step 5 :

In every chain-6 loop: 1 single crochet, 1 half double crochet, 3 double crochet, 1 half double crochet, 1 single crochet. End with a slip stitch in the first single crochet of the first chain-6 loop. Fasten off.

Flower (Turquoise 6-petal) :

Step 1: 6 single crochet in a magic ring, 1 slip stitch in the first single crochet, change color.

Step 2 :

Chain 6, 1 double crochet in the 4th chain, 1 half double crochet in the next chain, 1 single crochet in the next chain.

Step 3 :

Skip 1 chain stitch of the set of 6. Make 1 slip stitch in the next single crochet that you made in the magic ring. Repeat rows 2-3 five more times until you have 6 petals. Fasten off.

Flower (Pink looped petals) :

Step 1: Make 10 single crochet in a magic ring, 1 slip stitch in the first single crochet, change color.

Step 2 :

* Chain 10, 1 slip stitch in the same single crochet below, chain 10, 1 slip stitch in the same single crochet again, 1 slip stitch in the next single crochet. * Repeat around. Fasten off.

Flower (Yellow 8 treble petals) :

Step 1: Chain 8, 1 slip stitch in the first chain you made.

Step 2 :

Chain 3, make 2 treble crochet in the ring, chain 3, 1 slip stitch in the ring. You have now made one petal. Repeat row 2 until you have 8 petals. Fasten off.

Note :

This flower is made out of two flowers and a leaf. I sewed them on top of every other so below you will find three pattern to make this flower. The second flower is a double flower. If you think making double flower is difficult, go here for a photo tutorial: http://annemarieshaakblog.blogspot.nl/2011/09/monday-pattern-day-double-flowers.html

Flower 1 (Bottom large flower) :

Step 1: Make a magic ring, chain 2 (does not count as a half double crochet). Make 10 half double crochet in the ring. Do 1 slip stitch in the first half double crochet. (10)

Step 2 :

Chain 2 (counts as the first half double crochet), do 1 half double crochet in the same stitch. Do 2 half double crochet in every stitch around. Do 1 slip stitch in the first half double crochet that you made at the beginning of this row. (20)

Step 3 :

Chain 1, make 1 single crochet in every stitch around. Do 1 slip stitch in the first single crochet you made at the beginning of this row. (20)

Step 4 :

*Chain 8. Skip one stitch, 1 single crochet in the next stitch.* Repeat around until you have 10 chain-8 loops. End with a slip stitch at the bottom of the first chain-8 loop you made.

Step 4 :

Now go through the middle of the leaf and do slip stitches all the way down. Fasten off once you're at the end.

Assembly Instructions

  • Sew the leaf to the bottom flower (Flower 1) by placing the leaf along the outer edge and stitching through the base of the leaf and the stitches of the flower to secure it neatly.
  • Place the smaller double flower (Flower 2) on top of Flower 1 so that the petals align attractively, then sew through the center of both flowers to attach them securely.
  • Attach pencil flowers to the back of a pencil by gluing or stitching the flower around a small washer or disc, then push onto the pencil end for a removable topper.
  • Use small flowers for cards or frames by gluing or stitching them into place; for hair clips, sew or glue a small pad to the back and attach to an alligator clip before sewing the flower on top.

Important Notes

  • πŸ’‘Use a 3.0 mm crochet hook with light cotton yarn to produce the same size and look as the samples in the ebook.
  • πŸ’‘Change colors by finishing the stitch before the color change and pulling through with the new color to create a neat join.
  • πŸ’‘Count stitches at the end of the first round and before making chain loops so petals line up evenly around the centre.
  • πŸ’‘Fasten off securely and weave in ends before layering flowers to prevent loose threads showing between layers.

This little ebook of crochet flowers is perfect for turning scraps into charming accents for cards, hair clips, and gifts. Each pattern is photographed and written in simple steps so you can make colourful blooms with ease. Use them to brighten up your home or give as thoughtful handmade presents. 🌸✨🧢
